PencilApp is a Minimalist Online Drawing Tool - Design Instruct

PencilApp is a Minimalist Online Drawing Tool - Design Instruct | Photo Editing Software and Applications | Scoop.it

PencilApp is a bare-bones online drawing tool designed for your tablet and your computer's Web browser.

Unlike other similar online drawing tools — such as draw.io, QueekyPaint or Sketchpad, for example — PencilApp just has a pencil, an eraser and a text-typing tool.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

They say don't expect a massive array of features, which actually sound kind of nice. We don't traditionally have an Sketchpad. This app has a handful of option instead of the dozens. This is similiar to the pen and paper sketches, so give it a try.

Briefly: Akvis Magnifier adds 64 bit, interior design app MyFourWalls | MacNN | Photo Editing Software and Applications | Scoop.it

Image processing developer, Akvis, has announced its release of version 7 of Magnifier. Available for Windows and Mac operating systems, Magnifier provides tools to resize digital images without losing quality, and is able to not only reduce an image's resolution, but increase it by dozens of times with no halos or artifacts. Intended to be easily configurable, Magnifier can be used with its preset tools or have its parameters adjusted to one's preference. Version 7 of Magnifier includes new tools as well as native support for 64-bit for Windows.

Akvis Magnifier's new features focus on overall improved function of the software. A Crop tool has been added to the standalone version, which lets users trim an image. The Share option in Version 7 offers the user the ability to post images from Magnifier to their chosen social media platforms. Batch processing bugs have been fixed, and more improvements can be found throughout the program. Current users of Magnifier can upgrade to version 7 for free, and Magnifier 7 can be downloaded as a free 10-day trial. The full version of Akvis Magnifier for new users can be downloaded from Akvis for $90.

MyFourWalls 1.0 released, able to create 3D interior design plans

Synium Software's MyFourWalls has been released, offering users the ability to create a new interior for their home in 3D. With customizable rooms and furniture available, users can test different aesthetics before renovating their space in real life. Its 2D editor is optimal for drawing floor plans -- supporting CAD as well as standard views -- and can then be switched to 3D to do a 'walkthrough' of the space that has been created.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

This is a combo between an app and AKVIS Magnifier 7.0, which is being upgraded for registered users. Magnifier resizes images without the quality becoming grainy. The updates are an overall focus feature that has been implemented with the cropping and sharing tools.

MyFourWalls 1.0 is for the interior designers that need to layout some blueprint like plans.

Building a Better Mobile Camera App

Building a Better Mobile Camera App | Photo Editing Software and Applications | Scoop.it

With social media and keen special effects, new app Camerarrific aims for dominance.

Smartphone users are so addicted to snapping photos and video and sharing them online that Roberts thinks they are hungering for a smartphone camera app that far surpasses its competitors.

“It’s hard to come across an app you can take good quality pictures with,” Roberts said.

Roberts claims that Camerarrific is one of the only camera apps around that features photos at full resolution lossless compression -- with so much color and detail that Roberts could recently pick out tiny dirt patches when he shot the grass in his lawn.

Roberts says the app has 10 times as many photo filters as its nearest competitor, Instagram, and the effects can be previewed live. There’s even the ability to do so-called “green screen” special effects with video. Starting in early 2014, users will be able to tag music to a picture, with the tag automatically linking to songs on iTunes.

The revenue model is to provide Camerarrific as a “freemium,” with money made off purchases of extra features such as additional filters. Enigmatic Flare is sticking to iPhone only at this stage, with Android coming after launch.

There are plenty of photo-sharing smartphone camera apps out there, including established players such as Instagram, Path and SocialCam.

With giants like these, it perhaps goes without saying that Camerarrific had better be groundbreaking, even downright revolutionary, if it is to compete.

Roberts is confident that Camerarrific will make the cut: “There’s enough features for people to enjoy. ...If you make a product that good, it will sell itself.”

Camerarrific recently debuted on the App Store by November. At launch, it will share on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Path, Instagram and more. Camerarrific’s own social network is coming in the first quarter of 2014, and will be hosted in Microsoft’s Azure cloud.

Strengths: Roberts, who developed a noughts and crosses (tic-tac-toe) game for the Commodore 64 system when he was 10, is counting on his programming chops to carry him through with a smartphone camera app that is so amazing that millions of people will clamor for the free downloads.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

Camerarrific has the term behind it that this is a better mobile camera app. It's hard to go through the play store and look at all the camera apps...but you may want to look at this one more throughly. There are enough features for anyone to enjoy. You even have the "green screen" effect while using the video control. And in early 2014 you will be able to tag music to your photos.

Hands on with Photopon, the app that turns food porn into dinner discounts

Hands on with Photopon, the app that turns food porn into dinner discounts | Photo Editing Software and Applications | Scoop.it

The arrival of camera phones signaled that we should start taking pictures of everything, and that they all deserved to be shared. Case in point: food porn. We love taking countless pictures of our meals, and we love ‘liking’ them on our feeds. What if there’s something we can do to turn food photography into a profitable endeavor? Enter Photopon, a new iOS app that aims to turn your food snapshots into location-based coupons.

Turning social activities into currency is no longer considered a brand-new concept – the number of services that aim to monetize your social content are certainly on the rise. Still, Photopon is on-target by pinpointing this very shareable niche, one that often comes with a price tag we’d like to get rid of. That sushi dinner was gorgeous, but it was also expensive. What if, for your Instagram of it, that price was cut?

Brad McEvilly – Co-Founder, CEO, and sole developer of the coupon app – says Photopon is actually a more developed version of a business idea he had two years ago. Originally meant to be a service that allowed businesses to set up photo templates for customers to filter their pictures with – instead of posing with an M&M mascot on a visit to the M&M building in Manhattan, you can simplify the process by selecting a pre-made photo overlay that has the mascot already in it – the updated version of Photopon is a lot more practical, honing in on something more people are spending money on and photographing every day.

You can keep retaking photos while in Camera mode. Once you are satisfied, you can approve the image and the coupon will appear on your Photopon profile, where you can either pass it on to friends or redeem the offer yourself.

Not surprisingly, Photopon’s most popularly redeemed coupons have to do with happy hour and hot entrée promos. McEvilly says while Photopon is still in its early stages, he’s working on partnerships with establishments that offer these types of deals as part of the company’s penetration strategy before branching out.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

What an idea! Those food photos can now come more in handy when they are turned into coupons. Photopon is very location dependent, that has a coupon template available..so those of you that live out of the way, may have to travel a ways.

So what's the concept? Being able to create a coupon and pass it to your friends, but your friends will need to have the app as well.

Before you become stuck on the idea you need to learn how to use the app first, since it's still in the arly stages of everything...once you've acquired the app...play around with it to understand the limitations and advantages.

New iOS iWork & iLife icons/features appear on Apple's website, GarageBand going free with in-app-purchases

New iOS iWork & iLife icons/features appear on Apple's website, GarageBand going free with in-app-purchases | Photo Editing Software and Applications | Scoop.it

On the 'Built-in Apps' page in the iPhone 5s and 5c section of Apple's website, although the actual app screenshots look the same, Apple is using new (flatter) iOS icons for the iLife and iWork suites designed to match the style of iOS 7. The iPhoto and GarageBand icons are identical to the ones that were leaked last week in the iCloud Storage preferences.

GarageBand is free on the App Store for all iOS 7 compatible devices; additional GarageBand instruments and sounds are available with an in-app purchase. iPhoto, iMovie, Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are free on the App Store for qualifying iOS 7 compatible devices activated on or after September 1, 2013. See http://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/ for iOS 7 compatible devices. Downloading apps requires an Apple ID.

It seemed odd that GarageBand was left out of the free software bundle last month. Obviously, Apple is looking to rectify this by moving to a freemium model with the app; offering the core functionality for free but making In App Purchases available for extra instruments and sounds.

As a replacement for the now-defunct Cards app, in line with our report from this morning about printing integration into iPhoto,  Apple will integrate photo book creation and print features directly into iPhoto for iOS. This will offer a more streamlined experience for users, as only one app (which customers are encouraged to download the first time they open the App Store on their new device) deals with photo management, photo editing and printing.

For Keynote, Apple seems to be expanding the flexibility of the suite. The new version will offer 30 different template themes to start from, a substantial increase from the 12 the app currently has. The copy also talks about a new feature for the iMovie app called iMovie Theater. Apple’s description is unclear on exactly what this feature is, but it seems to somehow simplify the process of sharing your movies across your devices.

Also, the website copy reveals new tidbits about the upcoming additions to the suite.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

Depending on whether you are a GarageBand app user. You may want to wait a bit, so you can get it for free. Next the iMovie app, which would simplify your video sharing or Apple's new photo book creation and print features. To say that this article has a list of new ideas that could soon come to a conclusion...is an understatement. I had to get a pen and write down the list of new apps, the ones that will be batched together on the free side and countless others.

Top 5 mobile photo editing apps on the market right now

Top 5 mobile photo editing apps on the market right now | Photo Editing Software and Applications | Scoop.it

In the beginning there were phones and cameras. We used phones for phone calling and cameras for camera photography. And then it came to pass that in the year 2000 the first camera-phone was sold in Japan, the J-phone. That’s when mobilography entered our lives and it doesn’t seem to be planning on exiting any time soon. But once the euphoria from the ability to take pictures with phones began to dissipate, we’ve noticed that pictures come out from phones kind of… wrong. Not bright enough, not sharp enough. Eventually, folks have figured out how to deal with that, too. Enters the mobile photo editing software. In seven or so years in its existence, there have been probably hundreds, if not thousands, of different apps allowing user to alter mobile photographs as he or she saw fit. And now there’s one that’s actually quite different. It’s called Clashot (available free on the AppStore and on Google Play) and it serves as a mobile platform, rather than just an editing app.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

Funny this is the first time I've come across Clashot. Which basically acts as a combined union with shared photos, comments and likes. We can never get enough when it comes to a camera or camera editing app. Depending on which phone you have (iPhone, Android or Windows 8) this small collection, has one of Windows 8's best.

There are a lot of photo book makers out there -- even Flicker joined the fray not too long ago -- but one company that we've been really impressed with ever since  it debuted is Mosaic, and now, Android users can take advantage of the service as well!

If you're a longtime reader of this blog, you may have noticed that our news editor DL Cade has been running the show as of late. Here's the reason: for the past 3-4 months, I've been hard at work building a new website service - one that we're finally revealing to the world today.

Bokeh, and is a mobile lifeblogging service that lets you save and share all of life's little moments throuh an easy-to-use app and easy-to-browse website. Private journaling apps and services make it easy to remember the days of your life, but generally they’re completely private — there’s no way for family and friends to drop by and follow along with your life.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

Ths little app called Bokeh, can act as a journal, but if you want this to be shared with family and friends, you can. Think of it as a remembrance sort of app than a broadcasting every thing you've done.

Painting with a stylus, despite what Steve Jobs said - The Boston Globe

Painting with a stylus, despite what Steve Jobs said - The Boston Globe | Photo Editing Software and Applications | Scoop.it

When he introduced the iPhone and iPad, Steve Jobs asserted the touchscreen devices didn’t need a stylus because humans come with 10 great touchscreen controllers sticking out of our palms: fingers.

SketchBook Pro

$5 for iPad and Android

SketchBook Pro takes the prize for this category. It’s a comprehensive sketching and painting program from Autodesk, a company with decades of expertise making design software. This powerful app comes with a variety of painting and drawing tools that you can use to create sophisticated works.

If you’re no painting expert, the app is still simple and entertaining to use. It has many different controls for painting effects — pen and brush shapes, sizes, stroke pattern, and so on — but the menu system makes it a breeze to navigate. You never get lost. And while you can use this app with your bare finger, if you use a stylus it will feel almost as if you’re drawing in real life, not digitally on a screen.

SketchBook Pro also has a few extras, like the ability to time-lapse record your painting in progress, that could be used by teachers to show how an expert would create a particular image.

Zen Brush

$3 on iOS

Zen Brush is also an app that has styluses in mind. It’s a particularly good companion for tablet styluses that have a brushlike extension, because the app is about making Japanese-style calligraphy and painting. In some ways it’s more basic than the other apps mentioned here because there are fewer settings; it is aimed at producing images with few colors that feel as if they’ve been painted in ink. You can change the background and ink colors, but the choices are from a limited list.

What this app does well is recreate the sensation of painting with a brush. It also has an elegant interface and built-in sharing options so you can show off your artwork on Twitter. The app’s not for everyone, and you may find its choices limit the artwork you can produce, but it’s definitely worth its $3 price.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

These sketching apps are pretty spectacular, with SketchBook Pro and the Zen Brush that uses the styluses approach. Then you also have the choice of Layers, which has painting included.

Filterloop iPhone App Review: Camera And Photo Editor For Mixing Filters

Filterloop iPhone App Review: Camera And Photo Editor For Mixing Filters | Photo Editing Software and Applications | Scoop.it
Filterloop is an iPhone app developed by Ultralab Apps. If you are looking for a super simple camera/photo editor app, this filter-mixing tool is a great app!

You can mix and match from a total of 18 different filter options, which is great for people who like to experiment with different looks for the same photo. In addition to a decent-sized library of filter options, Filterloop is also great because of its simple, uncluttered user interface.

There are a ton of free photo apps out there, and many people gravitate towards the free apps instead of the paid apps. Filterloop may cost a little bit of money, but it is worth every penny. If you’ve tried the rest of the photo filter apps, then it’s definitely time to see what you’ve been missing with Filterloop.

Filterloop allows users to post their filtered photo creations to Instagram, Facebook or Twitter or export pics to other apps. In addition, there are two camera modes to play around with (square or rectangular camera mode.)

In short, Filterloop is ideal for photography fans who like a basic interface, but who also want to experiment with tons of different filter overlay options.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

Filterloop has an uncluttered interface, that alone is enough to try out the app. But this one will cost you, as an iPhone junkie this is a top-notch photography tool. With the series of combinations to mix and match filters and effects, what could of been an impossible concept becomes a possible masterpiece.

KakaoTalk 4.1.0 for Android Brings Revamped Store UI, Photo Editing Feature, Fixes, and Improvements | Photo Editing Software and Applications | Scoop.it

Our KakaoTalk for Android update list has been rather short as of late. The last update the app received was just a minor one back in September, after receiving an additional two updates earlier that week.

Mere hours ago, however, our Google Play alerts sprang to life, revealing not only a new update, but a pretty major one at that.

The latest update, version 4.1.0, includes a new photo editing feature that includes both filters and Kakao Friends stickers, both of which let you customize your photos to your heart’s content before sending them on to friends. The update also brings a revamped Item Store UI to make things look and feel a little smoother.

The update also includes:

  • Other improvements and fixed bugs
  • Additional design improvements to 4.0
  • Fixed a problem where the emoticon keyboard did not appear in the chatroom
  • Improved usability for lock screen

Kitty Fisher's insight:

Android's Kakao Talk has had a major update, it includes a photo editing feature that involves filters and stickers...allowing for more customization. With the previous updates were quite small, but a lot of the bugs have been fixed and this runs smoother than ever.

Snapseed For iOS And Android Gets Major Update — Still The Best Photo Editor Available | ZAGGblog

Snapseed For iOS And Android Gets Major Update — Still The Best Photo Editor Available | ZAGGblog | Photo Editing Software and Applications | Scoop.it

The mobile app developed by Nik Software (a Google Company). Is currently available for iPhone and iPad, as well as Android devices and even on the web via Google+Photos.

The latest update to iOS and Android includes a new feature called HDR Sacpe, which really does a fabulous job of increasing the dynamic rnage throughout your photo. With a little more tweaking (I'd increase the contrast and maybe do some selective adjustments to bring out the green tones in the grass some more, then lessen the saturation on the oranges in the sunset), this would be a postcard quality shot, all taken and processed on my phone in less than 2 minutes.

It also looks like the latest update has done away with the resolution limitation. Previously, photos were reduced in size if they were larger to begin with. That limited your ability to print with higher resolution images. In the photo above, the image started at 3264 x 2448 and the final product stayed the same — exactly 7.99 megapixels.

Another enhancement in the latest update is a new shadows slider, which you’ll find in the ‘Tune Image’ section. I played around with it a little and the results are great. In photos where you have a lot of detail lost in dark shadows, Snapseed will brighten just those areas to help restore what you otherwise may have missed. Like other effects, it works better with some images and less with others.

Just for fun, here’s another sample before and after image created completely with Snapseed, the HDR Scape effect and the new Shadows slider, taken with my Xperia Z1. Like the previous photo, Snapseed didn’t reduce the resolution of my image. It started at 3140 x 2160 and the final image remained the same.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

The updated iOS Snapseed has improved towards postcard quality. Seeing the difference between the before and after images and none of the resolution faultered at any point. If you still haven't tried out Snapseed, I suggest you try it out (since it's free).

MacPhun launches Intensify photo editing app on the Mac store | Photo Editing Software and Applications | Scoop.it

MacPhun has launched a fully-featured photo editing software suite, called Intensify and Intensify Pro, designed for Macs.
Announced today, Intensify is available for devices running OS X 10.7 (Lion) or higher and brings features like Pro Contrast, Structure, Details and Micro Sharpness for fine-tuning images, as well as more general one-click presets for making the snaps look better with the minimum of fuss.

There’s also support for multiple effect layers and enhancing images with things like smart brushes, gradients and other effects. Naturally, you can also share them directly to social networks.

Intensify for Mac is available from the App store priced at $39.99 and there’s also a Pro version (which can be run as a plugin for Photoshop, Aperture, Lightroom, etc. or as standalone app) that costs $59.99 and is available to download from the MacPhun website. It can’t be offered via the Mac App Store as it does not allow the sale of plugins, MacPhun said.

Facebook for iOS app update brings photo commenting, additional editing options

Facebook for iOS app update brings photo commenting, additional editing options | Photo Editing Software and Applications | Scoop.it

Facebook has updated its social networking app for iOS to version 6.6, bringing with it some additional functionality that desktop users have enjoyed, improving the overall process. After updating, users will be able to add photos to comments they leave on statuses, something that has been available for a little while now on the Web, as well as some other changes.

In addition to the photo ability in commenting, the iOS version of the app has also scored more editing functionality, likewise bringing it inline with the desktop version. Both statuses and comments can be edited using the mobile app, and any changes that have been made via editing will be visible on iPad and iPhone from the changelog accompanying it.

For English specific users, Facebookers can leave icons on friends timelines from the mobile devices. In terms of privacy changes, editing and reviewing them from a smartphone or tablet is now easier with privacy shortcuts in the form of a small lock being placed near the user’s name. Tapping on the icon pulls up the new privacy shortcuts.

Beyond that, changes made to the app include various bug fixes, none of which were detailed. As far as app updates go, version 6.6 isn’t very substantial, but those who use the mobile social networking app often or as their primary means of access will find the changes convenient, boosting their mobile interaction with their Facebook friends.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

Facebook has made some updates for the iOS 7. If you are a mobile Facebook user like most people, you will find this more convenient, than the normal run of the mill. On top of that the editing has been greatly substantial.

6 Color Creative Photo Editing Apps To Retouch Boring Photos Weekly Smartphone App Roundup

6 Color Creative Photo Editing Apps To Retouch Boring Photos Weekly Smartphone App Roundup | Photo Editing Software and Applications | Scoop.it

Not only are smartphones sporting increasingly powerful camera components more than capable of taking breathtaking photos (the new iPhone 5s has a larger pixel, f/2.2 aperture lens, while the Nokia Lumia 1020 sports a gigantic 41 megapixel sensor!), the accompanying apps makeit easy to share photos, store, or process them into unique works of art in ways casual film photographers could never dreamt of doing. Photo enhancement apps are a dime a dozen, however there are a few special apps truly worth downloading, whether taking your 1st photo or your 10,000th.

The best advice to adopt as a photographer is to simply take a lot of photos. This means out of numerous shots, at least one should prove worth keeping. But all photos are possibly worth keeping when using Layover, an app that combines several photos into one picture as layers with astounding results. Layover is perfect for photo editing beginners; users can make use of 15 blend effects to morph a photo of a cat into a wonderland of color with an intriguing textured background. The possibilities are virtually limitless and allow photographers the ability to consider not only composition, but texture and color whenever snapping their next "roll" of images. $1

Kitty Fisher's insight:

A few of these photo editing apps, you will already be familiar with like Snapseed for instance. But Layover takes the dozen of photos (usually of the same object or person) and lays image over image to give you an even crisp quality. With a color induced and textured background. Or for that coffee lover, like myself Percolator just seems like a dream that was turned into an app.

Bringing the Purikura booth to your phone: 5 photo-editing apps to style your photos

Bringing the Purikura booth to your phone: 5 photo-editing apps to style your photos | Photo Editing Software and Applications | Scoop.it

Gone are the days where we were all satisfied with just a sizable collection of filters in our camera app. As users get more sophisticated and creative with their phone cameras, many are demanding more options, such as beauty touch-ups, decorative stickers, handwriting functions with a wide range of pen styles etc.

More camera apps, particularly in Asia, are starting to resemble purikura machines, the uniquely Japanese photo booths that allow you to decorate your photos with a stylus on a touch-screen.

Purikura originates from the word Print Club (Purinto Kurabu) and back in the early days, you could only take photos with cute frames featuring Japanese cartoon characters such as Hello Kitty. However, the latest purikura machines do more than that – eye enlargement, leg slimming effect, skin whitening, lip and hair color change are just some of the beauty features you.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

Photo booths? That allow you to decorate your images by using a touch screen inside of the Purikura booth. Pretty cool that they have sized this down to a photo-editing program. I like decorating my own photos but this may be for those who really want to go full out and beyond.
