Often as I work with an image (particularly when making detailed repairs with the Clone and Healing tools) I need to zoom in. It’s very easy when working at 100% magnification to lose your perspective when working in Photoshop.

Clipping can really screw up a photo. As you make adjustments to a developed image, it’s possible to clip data (essentially create a loss of detail in the shadows or higlights).

To do mass processing of images ranging from simple white balancing with an eye dropper, or adding presets across a series of images for set continuity, Lightroom has been the program of choice. Despite the fact that it can really eat your computer’s resources and behave like a 5 year old crashing after a sugar rush, with an able enough computer it works exceedingly well.

I recently had the opportunity to play with an infrared-converted camera, thanks to the folks over at LensRentals.com, and had a lot of fun photographing my dog at an expansive dog park just outside of Portland, Oregon. I ended up with some really great images, and wanted to share my start-to-finish processing steps with one of the photos to show some of the basics on how to process infrared images.

In retouching you see this quite frequently, whether you're using seamless paper, vinyl, a fabric hanging or a purpose built infinity cove, it's going to get dirty. One option which we'll cover here, is to solve it in post, in this case using Adobe Photoshop.
