Share and Share Alike! | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Education is about the free exchange of ideas. The exchange part is where the sharing comes in. Without sharing, there is no exchange.

At one time content was a commodity that was doled out for a price by institutions that housed the texts that contained the content. That is no longer the case. A combination of content on the Internet as well as the advance of social media and it is a whole new paradigm.

=> Of course this only works if exchanges of information takes place. <=

Curation: How to Find New Competitive Knowledge in Social Media

Curation: How to Find New Competitive Knowledge in Social Media | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
Buzz used to be an intangible — something you just felt. No longer.

===> Look for online "curators." Experts who collect and share "best of" resources on specific subjects are analogous to museum curators who carefully choose which pieces to display. <===

In social media, curators do a good job of keeping track of people's conversations as they occur in online social spaces and quickly channeling that information, in some cases using tools such as Storify to distill conversations.

For example, the World Economic Forum in Davos uses Storify to put together summaries of its events. Canadian financial cooperative Desjardins wanted to learn about new electronic currencies, so it tracked a UK community dedicated to crowdfunding and sought experts in Africa on mobile-payment practices. The company prefers such information-gathering methods to relying on market-research firms.

===> If you can find the right set of curators to follow, you can reduce your reliance on searches of traditional databases and publications. <===

I was never a huge fan of Twitter and I didn't see how a person could express himself in 140 characters, but apparently, Twitter has many benefits when it comes to reaching your learners.

Via Ramon Aragon, MonVall, juandoming
Gust MEES's insight:

Abstract:
Teaching as well as attending lectures in big lectures halls is an often-usualsituation in middle European universities. Bearing in mind that a huge mass of learners leadsto a decrease of lecture-student interactivity during lectures, the research work aims toenhance traditional face-to-face teaching by technology. The well-known and widely usedmicroblogging platform Twitter is used to display questions, notices and ideas on a wall just in time.

Therefore a so-called TwitterWall is developed by Graz University of Technologyconcerning special pedagogical needs. Afterwards a first use in a big lecture is pointed outand discussed. The publication concluded that the use of Twitter in combination with specificsoftware can help to enhance lecture interactivity in mass-education.
