Photosharing apps are popular, Photoshop is popular, why not bring them together? That's the idea behind Bazaart, an iOS app that hits version 2.0 today.

The app makes it easy to combine and edit photographs and other images that can be pulled in from your camera roll and social networks, and from other sources like Gilt’s fashion and home decor photos, 500px, and Bing web image search results. The app is part of the Morpholio Project, an effort by a quintet of creatives to bring the design process into the digital age (the team, which met at Columbia University, includes Jeffrey Kenoff, Toru Hasegawa, Mark Collins, Anna Kenoff and Ciara Seymour). With their marquee app, Morpholio, they aimed to reinvent the critique, making it possible for “architects, designers, photographers, artists, or members of any creative culture to beautifully present, creatively share, and instantly discuss their work in one seamless platform.”

What an app this turned out to be. It's primary functionality is a tracing paper-style layers. With the slide of your finger, you can layer sketches on top of one another.

VSCO Cam brings its simple interface and powerful photo-editing tools to Android

VSCO Cam brings its simple interface and powerful photo-editing tools to Android | Photo Editing Software and Applications | Scoop.it

After an extended beta test period, VSCO Cam for Android is now available to download from the Google Play Store. VSCO Cam is one of the most popular photography apps for iOS, as it combines a simple-to-use interface with powerful filters and photo editing tools. The app is free and available for most devices with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or higher.

But there are a couple of things missing from the app depending on which Android device it's installed on. For instance, the vast majority of Android devices do not support spot metering, so VSCO was required to disable the two-finger split focus and metering tool in the camera section of the app. Still, the interface and picture-taking experience is as fast and responsive on Android as it is on iOS, which is no small feat.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

One of the more popular photo editing tool is now the VSCO Cam. Even though it was challenging, the co-founders knew that with the comments from the audience, this was what they wanted. But building it for the Android, is a heavy step forward.

LoryStripes Photo-Editing App Goes Universal With Native iPad Support -- AppAdvice

LoryStripes Photo-Editing App Goes Universal With Native iPad Support -- AppAdvice | Photo Editing Software and Applications | Scoop.it
Less than a month after its launch on iOS, LoryStripes has been updated with universal support.

LoryStripes is a photo-editing app that lets you add ribbons and lines, called "Stripes," to your photos. As we noted in our Today's Best Apps feature including LoryStripes: "With a little effort and time, these rippling ribbons can be strung, woven, and wrapped around you, others, or even inanimate objects."

LoryStripes was launched as an app optimized for iPhone and iPod touch only. But with its first ever update, which also includes some bug fixes, the app has been optimized for iPad as well.

But as before, LoryStripes offers the following features:

  • 40 beautifully crafted Stripes
  • 120 Stripe presets, or “Styles”, to quickly select the right Stripe for any photo
  • 62 stunning colors and 9 different shadings and blends for every Stripe
  • Completely customize any Stripe by rotating, scaling, and moving them in 3D for an infinite number of possibilities
  • Make every Stripe live perfectly in your photo by weaving the Stripes between different elements using the Masking feature
  • Layer your Stripes using the ReStripe feature
  • Share on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter
  • Browse amazing LoryStripes creations by artists like you in the Inspirations section, updated continuously
Kitty Fisher's insight:

This is a trippy take on apps. If you wanted to place ribbons or stripes throughout your photos, this would be it. I've honestly never come across something quite like this. But overall it does seem that you would be able to become creative with the shots you've taken.

Intensify 1.0 review: New image-editing app highlights the details | Macworld

Intensify 1.0 review: New image-editing app highlights the details | Macworld | Photo Editing Software and Applications | Scoop.it

Photography software for Mac OS X just got a new variation on the theme. Macphun developers of the popular Snapheal and FX Photo Studio recently debuted Intensify, a photo editor that specializes in enhancing image details.

Intensify, whiche works on 64-bit Macs running OS X 10.7 and above, comes in two versions. The $40 standalone program is available on the Mac App Store now for an introductory price of $30. The Pro version, which features plug-ins for Adobe Photoshop and Elements, Aperture, and Lightroom, costs $60 and is available on the Macphun website or loaded on 4GB SD cards for retail sale. The plug-in works with Adobe Photoshop CS5, CS6, and CC; Photoshop Elements 10 or later; Lightroom 4.0 or later, Apple Aperture 3.3, and iPhoto. We tested the Pro version.

Anyone accustomed to Mac image-editing software won’t need to consult the manual to get started with Intensify. Some presets have clothing catalog-style names such as Good Cityscape, Calm Day, Spicy, and Autumn Morning, whose meanings may vary. Other preset names, such as Strong Details, HDR Vivid, and Crisp are easier to decipher.

You can set up the app to show a simultaneous before and after comparison to keep track of your changes to an image, and you can use the Eye icon to preview changes. The interface performed smoothly for enlarging and navigating around images.

The program sits in a convenient application window with top and righthand toolbars featuring the controls and presets. Image layers let you edit easily and nondestructively.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

Without using a manual, we tend to get lost. But with Intensify, which has may favorite feature the before and after comparisons. Because who wants to keep going back and forth between separate windows just to see what you've just edited? Right, no one. And this app is cheaper than your standard issue, especially coming from the Mac App Store.

Featured App Review: Photo Mate R2 | Androidheadlines.com

Featured App Review: Photo Mate R2 | Androidheadlines.com | Photo Editing Software and Applications | Scoop.it

Description: While we keep on hearing that our smartphones and tablets now have comparable performance to our laptops and desktops, there hasn't really been any desktop-class photo editing for Android.  For instance, photo editing on mobile is still very much a simple “wizard-like” process, filled with filters and quick fixes. It doesn’t have to be like that though, as there are apps out there that can help you get the best of your photos – even in RAW format. Photo Mate R2 is the sequel to the popular photo editing app that gave photographers the same sort of tools they’re used to. Photo Mate R2 is back with a new UI, hundreds of new features and far-reaching RAW support. It’s definitely the best Android app for those looking to get granular editing tools on the go, no matter where they are.How it Works: First of all, you’ll need to download the app from the Play Store and remember, you’re going to need a fairly powerful tablet for this to work well, so something from the high-end from the last year or so. Once you’ve done that, you can go about getting your photos into Photo Mate R2. You can do this by importing files from the internal storage, from your SD card slot (if available), from a network and even from your Camera using USB.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

After all the talk about smartphones and tablet, Android got a bit left behind in the dust, with the whole comparison between smartphones and laptops. This review on the Photo Mate R2 is on the higher end of technology. And with that in mind it will run better on the higher side, so basically any thing from last year till now. And you'll have three different ways of how to import your photos.

Innovative Gesture Camera App To Make Mobile Photography Easier

Innovative Gesture Camera App To Make Mobile Photography Easier | Photo Editing Software and Applications | Scoop.it

Kevin Reddy and Sung Kim got tired of unintuitive camera apps so they decided to develop their own. Gestures camera app is a future best seller we think!

Gestures is brought to reality by Kevin Reddy, Sung Kim and their team, and it is going to be a truly interesting app to check out. Mashing Apple’s flawless design with intuitive and innovative features will probably make this camera app one of App Store’s most popular apps at some point. The interface is minimalistic, and that is what we want. We don’t care about bulky interfaces when we’re taking photos we want to see the photo itself, right?

The Gestures app will incorporate a string of innovative features, like instant touch photo snapping and pinch gallery browsing, just to name a couple. That is exactly why the whole interface is so intuitive that it doesn’t matter where you are from, it comes natural to zoom into a gallery to see photos in actual size.

Unfortunately, the Gestures camera app is not yet ready for the App Store. The founders and the team behind it are looking to crowdfund the remaining development and marketing of the app. They have turned to Kickstarter to see if its community will feel the excitement to pledge the $10,000 necessary to bring the Gestures camera app to market.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

There are already so many camera apps to deal with, which one will work fast and keep me connected with the everyone? So why should you pay attention to Gestures? Besides seeing your photos in their actual size and will more importantly be more popular at the App Store soon. Keep you eye out and listen for more on this app not yet on the market.

Nokia Introduces New 'Refocus' App, Turns Lumia Phones Into Lytro-like Cameras

Nokia Introduces New 'Refocus' App, Turns Lumia Phones Into Lytro-like Cameras | Photo Editing Software and Applications | Scoop.it

In addition to announcing the Nokia Camera app and RAW support for the Lumia 1020 and 1520 (read about that here), Nokia made one other camera-centric announcement that had us perking our ears up: the company also introduced a Lytro-like refocusing camera app called Nokia Refocus Lens.

Initial reports were a bit confusing, but it looks like Nokia Refocus Lens is indeed a stand-alone app and not (at least not yet) a part of the new Nokia Camera app. Details are still slim, but the company has launched a dedicated Refocus site to demonstrate what the app can do.

Basically, this will be yet another software-based version of the Lytro-inspired “shoot first focus later” approach. Since there isn’t any light-field technology built into the cameras, the system works by analyzing the scene and taking anywhere from two to eight pictures, which it then stitches together intelligently into a focusable final image.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

The Lytro inspired first focus feature. Where at any point, whether you are up close and like in the photo above, a city far away in the background. Usually it's either one or the other that is in focus, but the Nokia Camera app will take a series of photos if it has too, to stitch together. Ultimately to make the perfect in focus image.

The Piclipse app is the ultimate photo editor on the go. It goes beyond what a general photo editing app can do and perceive. With over forty different and unique editing filters, you will be torn between so many to apply to your favorite photos.

Common features such as text addition, color control, and convenient individual effect removal are still a part of this distinct app. It doesn’t stop there though.

You also have the ability to turn your photos into slide shows with music you can snag form your device’s library. Want to showcase your creation? Save the slide show(s) in video file format and email it to your friends and family. Want to get the perfect shot of something or someone in motion.

With a sleek interface and a nice contrasting backdrop, all editing features are noticeable and recognizable. Each editing option is highlighted and obvious, and with a few taps here and there anyone can figure how to use each feature and what it does for the user.

Filters are identifiable on the bottom of the screen and additional editing options are available on the upper right and left had corners.  Instant edited photo sharing via personal social network accounts such as Twitter and Facebook is also made easy.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

When a photo editor app is described as, not your ordinary app...you've caught my attention. A favorite detail of mine happens to be the slideshow were you can add music to it. Okay that's just something I would do, but there a plenty of other things that you need to check out on Piclipse.
